Founded in 1984, the Pittsburgh Planned Giving Council provides educational and networking resources to gift planning and allied professionals to promote charitable gift planning. We envision a community where every individual leaves a legacy through philanthropic estate gifts.

The Council meets regularly to discuss issues and trends in the area of charitable gift planning, and is affiliated with the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners.

    Philip Hackney's scholarship focuses on the legal framework governing the nonprofit tax-exempt sector, encompassing charities, social welfare organizations, labor unions, and trade associations. His research examines the influence of the Internal Revenue Code on these entities, which play crucial roles in providing services to vulnerable populations, engaging in political advocacy, managing healthcare provision, and delivering education. Professor Hackney's work aims to enhance the understanding of nonprofits to inform better design of tax and state law rules, ultimately serving the sector's diverse purposes more effectively.
